The Mongolia-Japan Hospital of the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences traces its origin back to 2016, when the Prime Ministers of Mongolia and Japan Government signed an agreement to establish a university hospital. This marked the beginning of a collaborative healthcare project that would become a symbol of friendship and mutual respect
between the two countries.
Thanks to the support of the Japanese people, the hospital was completed and opened in 2019 with modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment that meets international standards. It is one of the most significant development projects between the two nations.
Guided by its vision of becoming a “University hospital that meets international standards,” the Mongolia-Japan Hospital operates with the mission to provide high-quality and accessible specialized healthcare services nationwide, to introduce cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies, and to integrate clinical services with education, research, and innovation in the health sciences sector.
The hospital plays a vital role in establishing the national model of a university hospital in Mongolia, offering specialized clinical services, conducting undergraduate and postgraduate medical training, and serving as a research base for international-level clinical studies.
Since 2017, the hospital has partnered with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to implement and enhance Japanese hospital management practices. The second phase of the project to strengthen the capacity and system of the university hospital is now successfully underway.
Mongolia-Japan Hospital places the highest priority on patient safety and satisfaction. It has pioneered the implementation of the Japanese-style “Patient Support Office” within the Mongolian healthcare system, and in 2025, this innovative approach was officially certified as intellectual property. The office focuses on protecting patients’ rights, providing information and support, enhancing service accessibility, and ensuring patient-centered discharge management. This model is now being introduced in other hospitals across the country.
Since its establishment, the hospital has been accredited by the National Healthcare Accreditation in 2019, 2021, and 2025; by the ISO 9001:2015 international quality certification in 2022; and by ISO 15189:2022 accreditation in 2024.
Led by the scholars, doctors, and professors of MNUMS, our team of physicians, nurses, and healthcare professionals is committed to providing high-quality, equitable specialized medical services, and to introducing innovative diagnostics and treatments into Mongolia’s healthcare system. Each year, we deliver outpatient consultations and diagnostics in 28 specialties to more than 175,000 patients, provide inpatient treatment to over 5,700 patients, and perform more than 3,500 surgeries.
As the number of patients and the scope of services continue to grow, our team remains firmly dedicated to maintaining patient safety and service quality at the heart of all clinical care. We strive to be a leader in Mongolia’s healthcare sector, driven by innovation and excellence.
